About
Before Becoming a Parent (B4BP) is a registered charity, based in London, and operating UK-wide.
We promote good parenting for the future by providing and advocating preparation for parenting in schools and elsewhere from the age of three upwards. We publish detailed books about how to provide thorough parenthood education for children and young people, and another about a unique way - NEWPIN - to transform the lives of parents in difficulty with an under-five-year old.
We offer free training sessions and a model lesson to any school anywhere in the UK, as well as to youth projects and to prisoners in young offender institutions.

I'm Ros Kane, a psychotherapist and author, based in London, UK.
I have worked in prisons, schools, play therapy, mental health and parenting organisations, run parenting education in many schools, and am the author of the books To Have An Only Child, The Miracle of NEWPIN and Nothing More Important.
I co-founded the charity Before Becoming a Parent in 2018, having realised that many of the serious social problems we all know about often have their roots in inadequate or harmful parenting. Parenthood can be a huge shock to many new mothers and fathers. If they had been thoroughly prepared throughout their school days about the emotional needs of babies, children and parents, and how best to meet them, we could expect better mental health, less crime and a happier society in future.
My experience over many years, as well as being a parent and grandparent, has led to my two-volume book, Nothing More Important: everything you need to know about preparing children and young people at school and all youth venues to become more empathic, understanding, relaxed, patient, confident and happy parents, more able to enjoy the long haul of parenthood.
Holding a 7lb flour baby 24/7 for a few days is just one way to prepare children and young people for the realities of parenting!
